ACTS FOOD BANK

acts-denver-food-bank

In 2011, our all-volunteer staff provided emergency food to over 10,000 hungry people each month.

ACTS distributed over 150,000 lbs of food monthly throughout the Denver and surrounding counties. That's over 2,000 food boxes and 3,000 hot meals each month! All of our overflow is then sent to the families of soldiers at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs.

Food Bank

The food bank opened its doors to the homeless in 2004 on the streets of "West Colfax". Since then, we have provided hope to the multitudes of homeless people, street people, under-the-bridge people, motel people, single moms, families of veterans, seniors, and out-of-work families.

We additionally extend the federal school lunch program by sending 180 "Totes of Hope" lunches to children of low-income, helping them eat through the weekends.

Our vision is to provide emergency food to anyone who is in need. We therefore do not draw geographical boundaries and people from all over Denver may come to get food. Unlike many food banks that allow only six boxes per year, we allow participants to come weekly for food.

Fresh Objective

Our objective is to provide the freshest of food, so we must move it as fast as we can. Bulk food donations averaging 3000 lbs. come in daily and are unloaded by our volunteers and workforce. As of Feb. 2011, a CDL School has graciously stepped in to handle our large pick-ups.  We have our own box truck, with a dedicated volunteer driver as well. Our wonderful network partners are on hand when we call for them to come for the overstock of perishables that need to get moved immediately.

Food Bank Hours

The Food Bank hours of operation is Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Emergency food help is available 24/7

Food Boxes

Our average food box weighs over 40 lbs, and includes: meat, canned goods, canned fruits and vegetables, pastries, dairy, prepared food items, produce, and bakery items. There is no need for anyone in our city to go hungry.

Coffeehouse

During the Food Banks In-Take process, and while our clients are waiting for their food boxes, we offer pastries along with a cup of hot coffee.

Bread Pantry and Produce Room

The Bread Pantry and Produce Room is open 24/7! Everyone is welcome to stop by to help themselves with the abundance that is available.

Come partner with us... Do something powerful for your community and bring a smile to your heart, be part of the giving. Please consider taking a stand against hunger with ACTS!

Felix Ortega
Felix Ortega

Our condolences go out to the friends and family of our beloved Felix Ortega, Workforce Manager for ACTS who passed away on Aug. 16, 2011. Felix spent the last years of his life tirelessly working to help those less fortunate than himself. He never asked what was in it for himself, but strived to make life better for others. Those whom you sacrificed for, and we your partners in this endeavor, would like to say one last "thank you"!
