BREAKING THE CHAINS – Recovery Program
Breaking the Chains is a recovery program designed to set men free of the chains and bondages that have robbed them of hope, future, livelihood, and families.
BREAKING THE CHAINS recovery program:
- HOUSING- we provide a safe place bringing stability to the men so they can focus on turning their lives around, current life challenges, breaking free from addictions, and becoming financially independent.
- WORK ETHIC- each participant agrees to a personalized recovery program which includes running the food bank and soup kitchen. These activities give the men the opportunity to engage in a fulfilling lifestyle. It builds both a work ethic and self-esteem. And as they encourage and focus on others, they encourage themselves.
- FAITH-BASED RECOVERY PROGRAM- the men attend weekly training and support meetings. These sessions focus on goal achievement, self-image improvement, understanding the forces working against them, spiritual reconciliation, team spirit, letting go of the past, exiting compensation modes, adjusting expectations, negative response management, harnessing positive forces, etc..
- ON-SITE CHAPLAIN SUPPORT- chaplains are on-site to come alongside the men as emotional, spiritual, and relational needs come up. Additional accountability is required for those still struggling with substance abuse.
- COMPANIONSHIP- each participant has a unique story. The men’s relationships with each other provide essential emotional support. Those who are further along in the program serve as mentor for those not as far along.
- CHURCH ACCESS- the men have access to various spiritual meetings throughout the week through partnering churches on site or nearby.
Our program provides a safe place, giving them stability, so they can work on their life challenges of breaking free from their addictions. Then they are equipped to move back into a fulfilling lifestyle.
As of mid-March, 2011, we unfortunately have a waiting list to get into this program and are turning men away. This could be resolved with funding for mattresses and bunk-beds or donations of these items, and we could double our program capacity.
They’re needs are met by the generous donations of those such as yourself.
A list of their needs would include but not be conclusive are:
Mattresses, Bunk-beds, Airbeds: twin
Bedding: full and twin sheets, comforters, blankets, pillows, sleeping bags.
Linens: bath towels, face towels, wash clothes.
Personal Bags and Backpacks: To keep their items together
Toiletries: Shampoo, Cream Rinse, hair gel, combs, brushes, hair picks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouth rinse, disposable razors, do rags, hair grease, baby oil, lotions, baby powder, foot powder, deodorant.
Transportation: Bus tokens, rides, or money for them.
Job & Life-Skills Training: Assistance with resumes, with interviewing, skill development, internet assistance and research skills, etc.
Physical Training: Memberships or access to clubs, YMCA, city athletic programs, or equipment on site.

Our desire and goal is equipping men to become fully functioning and self sufficient so they may go out into the world and making a positive impact in their family and community.
We would love for you to join our community of donors. Would you help us to be that hand-up that is so desperately needed?
