ACTS Food Bank
ACTS Food Bank is a new name for a community service 6 years going strong. Nancy Roble started her Outreach on the streets of West Colfax; providing hope to the multitudes of homeless people, street people, under-the-bridge people, motel people, young and old alike. After outgrowing the Colfax building, the Outreach was moved to our current 10,000 square foot facility near the heart of Denver. Our Clay Street location is just down the street, a few blocks west, of Mile High Stadium.
Our all-volunteer staff currently provides emergency food to over 8,000 hungry people each month. We move approximately 70,000 lbs of food per month.
We continue to serve the previous crowd from Colfax, along with a new crowd from the metro Denver area. We have very generous donors of food from our local market-places and many more are joining us. If you would like to be one of them please call us. We welcome you! We are growing!
Our vision is to provide emergency food to anyone who is in need. We do not have any boundaries; people from all over Denver may come to get food. We do not put limits as to how many times a year they may come for food, as most food banks allow only six times a year.
We have a desire to have the freshest food and to move it as fast as we can. We have pick-ups every day, and there are those who volunteer their time, energy, vehicles, and gas to do so. We have our own box truck, with a dedicated volunteer driver as well. Our wonderful network partners are on hand when we call for them to come for the overstock of perishables that need to get moved immediately.
Our Food Bank hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 11:00am until 2:00pm; however we offer emergency food 24/7. Our average food box weighs over 40 lbs; and includes: meat, canned goods, canned fruits and vegetables, pastries, dairy, prepared food items, produce, and a lot of bakery items. There is no need or room for anyone in our city to go hungry.
During the In-Take process, while our clients are waiting for their food boxes, we offer a home-cooked free prepared lunch from our Coffeehouse. They are also welcome to choose as much bread as their family needs from our “Bread Pantry”. Emergency boxes vary due to need and availability. However we always make sure people will have food until they can pick up more on a the Outreach Day. No one should go hungry in our town, don’t you agree?
Come partner with us at the ACTS Resource Center, and do something powerful for your community. It will bring a smile to your heart to be part of the giving.
Let’s take a stand against hunger…it’s time to ACT!
